Welcome

Welcome to WeRelate, your virtual genealogical community. We're glad you have joined us. At WeRelate you can easily create ancestor webpages, connect with cousins and other genealogists and find new information.

Create Webpages

The first thing to do is launch Family Tree Explorer, then select File in the Family Tree Explorer menu and give your family tree a name. Then you either upload your GEDCOM or create person and family pages one at a time. To upload your GEDCOM, select File in the Family Tree Explorer menu and then click on Import and choose the GEDCOM file to import. The system will create a editable web page for each person and family in your GEDCOM. To create a page manually, select Add in the Family Tree Explorer menu and click on Add new person; enter the given and surname, and select Add. Then fill in the blanks and save.

The Family Tree Explorer is a Flash application and will need to use some space in your computer to cache the files. That's computer talk for "If you store some ancestor page information on your computer, you will be able to view more pages faster. Otherwise, the system has to fetch each page every time you edit or look at it. This caching is not permanent and only lasts as long as you are at WeRelate each time.

Connect with other genealogists [2 January 2011]

You should always sign in when you are editing or adding pages. Use the signature button to sign your work (the swiggle, second from the right, above the edit box). That way others with similar interests can find you. If you click on the blue user name on any page, you will go to that person's home page. You can leave a message on his/her discussion page. The discussion page button is in the second level menu bar above.

Hi, I found your page on Isaac Johnson(Johnston) of VA and KY. b. 1745 of Isaac Johnson, b. abt. 1720. We are in a direct line from these Isaacs, but this is the 1st time I have found a reference to Isaac (1745) having brothers. Do you have a source for this? Please let me know. waterwayjj, Judy Johnson--Waterwayjj 16:43, 2 January 2011 (EST)

Thomas Ligon descendants

Hello YJ Norton, I am getting read to attach my Ligon family to yours. I believe I have it correctly - I have taken the descendency from "The Ligon Family and Connections" book by Willaim D Ligon, 1947. I am not exactly sure how to connect, but I will check it out.

Naming of Persons on WeRelate and correction needed [26 February 2010]

Hello, I am one of the volunteer Administrator's on WeRelate. I noticed that you had added several members of the Sewell/Seawell family of England. In the surname field, you added "Seawell or Sewell". We'd ask that, in the future, you only load one surname for each person, which should be the most commonly accepted surname. Less common spellings should be added as "alternate surnames". The matching and search processes will not work properly if multiple surnames are added. Also, when a wife's name is unknown, please use "unknown" in the name field, instead of "Mrs. Sewell".

If you'd like additional information on naming persons and families on WeRelate, please consult the following:

http://www.werelate.org/wiki/Help:Naming_conventions

Also, I noticed the following person you show died in 1695 in "Fayette County, West Virginia". Since Fayette County, West Virginia was not established until 1831, you might want to check your sources and correct this.

Richard Dudley

Thank you for your assistance and best regards:)--Delijim 09:07, 26 February 2010 (EST)

Reuben Martin, Texas [17 November 2011]

Hi, I wondered if you are the person who created the we relate page on Reuben Martin? I see that you are the only person listed as a watcher for the page.

I have been researching Reuben's family. His father was Joseph Martin and his brothers were, Thomas Tillman Martin, William Moon Martin and James Martin. They were from TN and moved to AR about 1818 or so.

I can share what I have on them and I wondered if you have a source for Reuben and Harriett's deaths? I can not find any of them in 1880 except Francina, so I also don't have the younger children that are listed as theirs born after 1870, except Thomas Stinson Martin.

Thanks, Renee Newman--Drnewman6 11:25, 17 November 2011 (EST)

Robert Moseley 1730-1808 [3 April 2013]

Hi

I am the great granddaughter of Florence Moseley Sept 22, 1865 to July 31, 1950

I have family members that have traced us back to Robert Moseley, but got no further than him. You have gone back quite a bit further. Do you have any documentation that would help me?

Some of my dates for the children are a bit different, but generally the same people. You also have John Moseley as the 1st son, which makes sense because the people who did the one I have were questioning who the John Moseley was.

I am new at this & would greatly appreciate any help you can give me

gilmore [12 July 2015]

William "Bill" Gilmore was married to Mary Ollis Cole and was born in Chesterfeild, Sc. He was my great grandfather. I have heard stories of my uncle Clarence in Laurel Hill, nc, which is where my grandmother was from. My grandfather was David Gilmore who died in 1979 in red springs, nc. I am very interested in learning more--Gilmore983 03:48, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
