Next step: Review your GEDCOM [21 October 2009]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded ANDREWS FOR WERELATE.GED, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing.

Click here to review your GEDCOM

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

Family:Mark Cayce and Unknown (1) [25 October 2009]

Hello, I am a volunteer admin. I noticed you removed the data from some pages. Are you trying to delete these pages? If so and you are the only contributor, go to the page and select Delete from the more menu. If you are not the only contributor enter {{Speedy Delete}} at the bottom of any text in the text box and explain your reason for deleting the page. Hope this helps.  :) If you have any questions or comments Please leave a message --sq 09:46, 25 October 2009 (EDT)

Place names [25 October 2009]

Hello, I am a volunteer admin. It's my job to help new users learn how to use WeRelate. WeRelate is the specifically designed for genealogy and may not work exactly like another wiki you have used. Our search system uses the place databases and so we have some very strict rules about adding places:

  • All place names must be entered in their jurisdictional hierarchy, i.e. City, County, Country. All words are spelled out, i.e. "United States."
  • We do not use the words for the type of local, such as "county," "town," "village," etc. unless there are two places in that jurisdiction with the same name.
  • Because we cannot store an address for every person and every event, we cannot have place pages for farms, homes, etc.
  • We do allow places of general interest such as cemeteries and hospital.
  • Since military units are not subject to civil jurisdictions, they cannot be stored as a place. If you would like to comment on the military unit, you can create an article on the unit and link to that article.
  • If you wish to note an event happened at home or on a particular battlefield, you can put this information in the description, or note fields, or you may do so in the text box at the bottom of the page. I edited Person:Donald Andrews (2) and Person:Mabel Culver (2) so you could see the effect of each notation. Hope this helps  :-)

Sorry for any inconvenience, but I needed to delete or redirect pages that didn't fit into our place name hierarchy. If you have any questions or comments, Please leave me a message.--sq 11:35, 25 October 2009 (EDT)

Richmond Cemetery, Jefferson Co, Ohio [20 November 2009]

Hi, I noticed the 3 pages you created for Richmond Cemetery -- one in Jefferson County, Ohio; one in Richmond, Jefferson County, Ohio; and one in Salem Township, Jefferson County, Ohio. Are all three the same cemetery? If so, is it actually in the town of Richmond? I'd like to see which page title we should go with and have the other two pages redirect to that one. Thanks for your help ~ Amy--Ajcrow 13:30, 20 November 2009 (EST)

Campbell, Clarksville, Ionia, Michigan, United States [11 January 2012]

Do you have a specific place in mind for Campbell, Clarksville, Ionia, Michigan, United States other than Campbell Township? Campbell Township already has a place page, and Campbell, Clarksville does not conform to the WeRelate place heierarchy for places in the US Midwest. (Unless it is a cemetery, but the page doesn't mention that.) --Pkeegstra 07:17, 11 January 2012 (EST)
