McGgard [7 November 2010]

Hello Scout,

I took a short quick look. I only found evidence of 1 GEDCOM (Golab) not two. There are only 16 people in this GEDCOM. Did you have the McGgard's in the Golab GEDCOM or in the yet to be uploaded GEDCOM? I will check my page tomorrow morning for your answer or to help you in more detail. Debbie Freeman --DFree 23:21, 6 November 2010 (EDT)

Hi. Thanks for getting back. I thought I was entering some Maggard relatives to my tree, but they do not appear in my tree "GOLAB". They are, however, in the system under user name "Scout". I did not download anything, just added it by hand. I would like to add sources, just haven't figured out how to do it yet. Do you work at the Allen County library? If so, maybe I could stop by sometime on a day off from work and get some help with how to put in sources. The tutorial was difficult to understand in this regard (images not large enough); and here I have a graduate degree!! Scout--Scout 12:30, 7 November 2010 (EST)

Golab - Sources Help ? [7 November 2010]

Hello,

Have you figured out what happened with your other GEDCOM or other family pages that you created by hand? I took a quick look this morning to the pages created. I do not see any sources for the 16 pages on your Golab family pages. We try to encourage sources here at WeRelate, would you be willing to post some sources, or would you be willing to have some help in putting sources in WeRelate? I know some User have a little trouble with the learning curve to learn the wiki system of WeRelate. If you need some help please send me a message on my Talk Page or Support (link on the main page) and I or support will try to help you. Thanks Debbie Freeman --DFree 12:03, 7 November 2010 (EST)

Adding people to trees [7 November 2010]

Hello and welcom to WeRelate. It seems like you are having a little confusion. I will try to explain a bit.

  • With reference to Trees. When you create a new page using ADD, you have the option to select which of your trees it is added to by using the check boxes that appear. Also these same check boxes appear at the bottom of the edit page. You can check or uncheck any time you edit the page to control which trees this page appears in.
  • When you are looking at a page (not in Edit mode), there is a Trees link on the left side. Click this and you can also control what tree the page will appear in. You can also have the system add ancestors or descendants of the person by using options on the Tree page. This is an easy way to add a lot of people at once so be careful. When you use this option, the pages are also added automatically to your Watch list and you will be notified of any changes to the pages.
  • If you are using the Family Tree Explorer (FTE) and browse to someone that is not in the open Tree, you are notified. You can then add this page to the Tree by clicking the button with the green plus sign in the left-hand panel of the explorer.

To add sources to a page, Edit the page. Below the events, you will see a section titled Sources. There is a link below that "Add a source" which will reveal a set of boxes to fill in.

  • For sources, you can either link to an existing page on WeRelate or you can just type you citation right in the Title box. You can include an excerpt from the source or explanation in the Text box below.
  • With reference to linking to an existing page:
    • The system has a catalog of source pages. You can search them from the search menu. To use one of these, select Source from the drop-down labelled Source namespace. Then type the exact title as it appears on the source page (the part that comes after Source: )
    • you can also create your own MySource page for items that you may want to reuse on several different pages without having to type it over an each time. These are particularly useful for will or deed transcripts and things like this.

We have a place for you to ask questions when you are stuck. Look at the Help menu at the upper right and select Support. Try to make your question specific and include the name of the page you are working on if you have a problem. Many volunteers monitor the page and you can usually get a quick answer. Enjoy! --Judy (jlanoux) 13:47, 7 November 2010 (EST) (WeRelate volunteer)

Sources help [7 November 2010]

Hello,

On the page you wish to add sources on the right upper side of the page is the word EDIT click on that it will take you to the edit page, choose already existing sources, add a new MySource, or a new source, add notes, images etc about or of the source then on the bottom of the page check the small box on the right bottom of the page, click on "show preview" if it is what you want then click on "save page". Hope that helps, Debbie Freeman --DFree 14:54, 7 November 2010 (EST)
