Note on Editing [14 December 2008]

Hi Parris. I notice that you are adding information to the talk page of the George Teater article. I'd like to restrict the information on the talk page to materials directly related to the argumentation being made there. Inserting other materials makes it difficult to follow the flow of the argument. However, I think these materials are of considerable use, and represent an interesting approach to using WeRelate as a repository for collected information....That's somethng that no one else seems to be doing, at least at the scale you are working at. So, Yes, I want to see this stuff captured...just that the talk page, as its presently being utilized, is probably not the best place for it. I think here the best thing to do would be to place the materials directly into the appropriate notebook. There are 11 of them right now, and additional notebooks can be added at need. I recommend keeping the format of the notebook names consistent with what we have now. But all you have to do on this is type is type in the name of the notebook someplace, click the resulting link, and the notebook will be created. Keep in mind that you need those double square brackets around the name to make the name into a link. Here's a start for a new notebook: Notebook12:George Teater (1). (By the way, the code for that looks like [[Notebook12:George Teater (1)]].)

One of the reasons for using the notebooks is that when too much information ends up on a page it makes the page very slow to load. By dividing it over the notebooks, you can do two things. a) Keep page loading and saving time down to a minimum, and b) help organize the information by subject area. Right now, many of the notebooks are random collections of your notes. My thought was that they could be reorganized eventually, so that at least similar/related information was grouped together in one area---for example, your Melungeon/Black Irish/German notes. That's probably a larger job than I personally want to tackle, but I'm using the notebooks as information sources to be tapped as the need arises. Eventually, we'll have the important features of George Teater's life blocked in, showing whatever progress we've made, including identification of any uresolved problems/issues. At that point the article itself will be about as complete as can be done. But the information you've been collecting will still be available in the notebook for any further work that's needed on the George Teater article, but also on articles that you might want to create for his children. My involvement in that phase of the effort will probably be minimal, since known of his family remained in SW VA. But I do like to understand the dispersion of a couples children, as it helps understand their parents history. Q 20:49, 14 December 2008 (EST)

Welcome and Comments [25 October 2009]

Hi Parris

Welcome to WeRelate. I'm glad you found the article on George Teater, and I appreciate your input. Like many genealogies, the lineage and family history of George Teater seems to have its share of confusions. To reduce the confusion in these cases I try to provide the underlying reasoning for conclusions reached. That reasoning is, to the extent possible, based on underlying sources contemporary with the persons involved. Based on that kind of approach, somethings can be pointed to as confirmed, other things as only guess work. But if you'd like to add more to this, or discuss anything here, please feel free. Just be sure to show "how you know what you know".

Discussion items, such as your addition to the bottom of the page really belong on the talk page. Where we keep commentary and input. In keeping with that practice I've transferred your comments to the talk page for the article. We can add any insights to the main article once we've had a chance to discuss the points you are making.

Thanks for contributing, and I look forward to working with you. Also, be sure to "sign" your comments with for ~'s marks. (or just hit the signature button in the blue icon bar above the edit space. Q 13:30, 9 August 2008 (EDT)

Thankyou for your reply. Im trying to refresh myself with this sites features. To reedit I do not really see a feature or display that says submitt. it would be much easier if there was just a simple submitt feature..

I would like to go back to the date of George Teater s birth. Who ever supplied the data as 1739 is very incorrect. There is no date on George Teater s headstone. It had been removed to the DAR section in Lexington to make room for a memorial at the original site ,old Teater farm. The original stone only says YE- G. T. 79 YRS OLD DEATH 1815. That means he born in 1736. I will show later in Bladen Edgecombe area.

Next my suggestion is to totally remove the name John Teeter. George Teater and John, John Teeter are 2 different persons. I have all of John Teeters notes right up to his death after 1810 Washington Co. Its better seperate the two persons. George Teater was Scotch Irish John Teeter was a German Swiss French speaking person. John teeter is very well documented at the North fork of Holston with the Fleenors and Funkhuasers French speaking Swiss and the Tuneys Frenchmen. Thanks--Parris 17:44, 9 August 2008 (EDT)

I intend to show excatly the French Huguenot John Tetlor left France and settled in Nassau. He came to London and married in 1660. He then moved to Ireland. A 2nd john Jacob Detlor A Nephew arrived in 1709 he was also French but lived and traveled with the Germans to Limirick. The 1st line used Teytor Tyter Tettler Teterow. Will show the brothers William George Samuel Benjamin Jacob came way before the 2nd Grouop Valintine Tettler son of John Tettler Limerick. This side was in New York and fought for the Brittish. They lost and went to the Camden colony in Canada. The connection to Paul Smeltzer Frederick Starns and George Teater all goes back to Limerick Ireland. With 2 older George Tettlers Teters ect, who lived there with Paul Smeltzers father Paul Sr. The other people documemented with George Teater such as Caleb Wallace Thomas Quirk William Gains many others. The Griffith tax valueations will show they were all from Kerry Limerick Southern Ireland which explains thier grouping up on the South Iirish colony of the Crab Creek Tract. The others Thomas Ingles James Burk Heavinors Heavins can all be documented with the Tettlers Teters ect back in limerick and kerry from 1680 to 1709 to 1769 in both limerick and kerry.. the 1st 5 brothers Samuel George Joseph Jacob William Benjamin some show they arrived before or around late 1729 to 1733 on ships direct to SC. I have the passenger list of the 2nd group cousins Valintine Vedder Tettler on a ship 1760 to New York.. At least 3 brothers Samuel Jacob and George Teeder Teator Tedder all the same people stuck together.. we find george and jacon moving around together from frederick co to georgia to bladen to rowan co..

John Teeter is well documented as coming with the Funckhousers Lefevers Turneys Fleenors Beelors from Bucks Co PA to the Shanadoah down to the north fork of the Holston.. more reords will show that John Miller ransomed Thomas Ingles 1768 The same year Benjamin Totten was apprenticed to Andrew Miller the son of John Miller who married Mary Ingles. That would of made Benjamin Totten Thomas Ingles sort of step brothers raised in South Carolina NC with the exception of Thomas Ingles who was deprogramed as being a Indian by DR Walker.. John Tuton the Gonzalvas all disapeared or were killed the same time as Thomas Ingles and his mother were taken captive. John Totten elder brother appears with George Teater the Parris brothers ect in Lord Dunmores war. So does Charles Gonzalza. Benjamin Totten John Totten are documeted agin with Thomas Ingles in his little miltia at Burks Gardern 1781 where Benjamin leaves Montgomery Co and shows near to where George Teater lived 1782.. More records should show George Teater was born in NC. Raised in Edgcombe and Rowan co then went north as Waggoner with Daniel Boone to the French Indian War. iT appears that the Capt Teater of 1766 Rowan Co was Daniel Teater a son of Jacob Teeder Teater--Parris 13:23, 19 October 2008 (EDT)

The issue is taking a new turn. DNA tests show 4 members across the United States whom have never met, the line of George Teator Jr Matched to a John and Richard aetter in England traced back to a Walloon Dutch family that came from a place called Isleven somewhere in Gelderland Netherlands. One of them was Hanz Dedericks a Dutch officer in the Dutch defense of New York and New Jersey 1670s. He was a Indian Trader Jailor Tavern keeper. His grandsons by son Wander Dedericks were Gerrit Jacob and Jacob Sickles all of Frederick co Vaa shown as sponsored baptisms by Joost Hite . This line came from Bergen New Jersey and by the 1730s 20s were using Teator Teeter derived from Dedericx Dedericks ect.. Gerrit used George Jeator jacob used Jacob Teeter. Joost Hite is found earlier in the Dutch Reformed Church with the same Sickles and Dedericks in Dutchess New York. These whole sets of new documents need to be sequenced put in order then posted later here.--Parris 15:01, 25 October 2009 (EDT)

Reorganization

Hi Parris

I thought you'd taken a break from adding things, but you seem to still be going strong. I was going to start reorganizing the Talk page, but perhaps I should wait a bit until you've finishd adding stuff in.

Thanks Q 12:19, 19 October 2008 (EDT)

Spouse of John Collins [25 October 2009]

Hello Parris,

I know that I have have Melungeon ancestry, but I dont't have a good trace on it yet. I would eventually like to get a DNA test. Thanks for your excellent work, it has been a great help to me.

Its been a while so Ir am little rusty of the Collins. Therefore by memory John Collins was the grandson of Meredith Collins a Quasi Melungeon soldier of the Revolution whom settled in Floyd Kentucky.. There seems to have been a Quasi Melungeon enclave in the area of Jessamine Ky. a Vardyman Collins Thomas Gibson FPC John Goins and memebers of his family. Nearby was Moses Giddle in Garrard. This little Melungeon clan was in Henry Co Va and parts of Montgomery Co Va Indian lands. David Collins married Betsy Burton she was a sister of colorfull character named Devil Bob Burton. Now Devild Bobs mom was a Bolen and Grandma was Sarah Gibson . These little tribes were not what you may or could call conventional Melungeons. I sorta coined them Quasi Melungeons. The main branchs were in Newman Ridge and Blackwater Tawkins Tenn Lee co Va.. The Quasi ones were in Floyd Clay and 3 corners there Madison Garrard Jessmaine Cos.. George Teator Jr had a 2nd wife named Polly Riddle whom lived near the Teters in Garrard Ky. Micheal Teator married Sopronia Collins a daghter of John Collins born in North Carolina. he was belived to be a grandson of Meredith Collins at the time the family was moving around Russell co Va. The other John Collins married the same time in Jessamine to Liz or Lucy Smith EXCERPT FROM JESSAMINE GENWEB

George Teater's Talk Page [29 June 2010]

Hello, I noticed the information that you added to the Talk Page of George Teater. Some of the information that you added may be useful, but much of it is either dealing with several other families, or is very poorly formatted. Could you please try to edit (shorten) the information and just cut it down to the information specific to George's family? The other information (especially the several lists that are included of many, many persons) should probably either be transfered to "project pages" or just deleted from George's page, in order to make it somewhat readable. Also in several places, you've added many consecutive periods (......) that need to be deleted, since it skips to a new line on each period. Sometimes on these pages, it is best to just list the most important information pertinent to that person, rather than "throwing everything you have" at their page.... Currently, there is over twelve (12) times (409 kilobytes) the data on George Teater's Talk Page than is recommended on WeRelate (32 kilobytes) .....

Thanks and best regards,

Jim:) Volunteer Administrator on WeRelate--Delijim 13:20, 29 June 2010 (EDT)

Information added to Samuel and George Teter's Person Page [22 August 2015]

Hello, I noticed a tremendous amount of information added to the Person Pages of Samuel Teter and George Teater. Much of your information added is unformatted, difficult to read, there are many gramattical/spelling errors and some of it does not seem to pertain specifically to Samuel or George. When adding information to a Person Page, please try to add only information that is specific to that particular person and please format it into paragraphs so it can be easily read by others.

I'd recommend you utilize Notebook pages (as others have previously suggested on your Talk Page) or the Talk Page to organize records or discussions regarding that pertain to that person.

If you could clean up this page and make it more readable, it would be appreciated. Otherwise I will move the information you've added to their Talk Pages, and you can clean it up later.

Thanks and best regards,

Jim:)--Delijim 13:34, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
