Murrays and Willcocks [11 February 2014]

Ben,

Good to hear from you. You and I are 1st cousins once removed as your dad and I are 1st cousins. I do not have a lot on the Willcocks or the Murrays. Your dad sent me a very large family chart that I have not studied very closely. I am sure he still has it. I used it to enter some basic information to my tree. My Mom, your grandaunt, Aunt Margy, remembers that: Lucille was an artist and taught art at a vocational school in Washington, DC. Also a conversation with Mom: 2011-25 Sep-spoke with Mom last night-she met Aunt Peggy when they were in the 4th grade; Aunt Peggy lived on Calvert Street in Washington, DC; her mother was Lucille; they had an Aunt Lill that lived with them; Aunt Peggy had a sister Eunice Farnum Murray; Eunice married Robert Ditmar.

I'm afraid that is not very much help at this point in time, but I will do some research and look up the chart your dad sent and see if I can't get more info for you. I do genealogy almost every day and I have just now gotten home from visiting Mom and then I called her to let her know I had heard from you. You can get me direct at peggytrobinson1947@gmail.com and please call me Peggy as we are cousins.

Ben,

I found the Cleaveland Family Tree which your dad had sent to me - it is in 8 photos. If you want it let me know your email and I'll send it to you direct. Will keep in touch if I learn anything more on the Willcocks and Murrays.

Murray and Willcocks [14 February 2014]

Ben,

Have done some limited research for the Murrays and Willcocks.

Of course, I assume you know your grandmother, Margaret Holley Murray (1923-1994).

Her mother (your great grandmother) Lucile (Willcocks) Murray - b Feb 1896 NY; m Ernest C Murray Jun 1918. They are in the NY state 1925 census; he is an attorney; he is age 32 (b 1893). There is a 1929 divorce record in 1929 in Jacksonville, FL for EM Murray and Lucile Murray - this is probably them with his middle initial being incorrectly indexed. On a family history note, it is interesting that Lucile and Ernest divorced in FL; my father and his sister were sent to FL to live with relatives for one year while their parents were getting divorced sometime in the mid-1930s. At any rate I have not found Lucile and Aunt Peggy for 1930 but in 1940 they are indeed living in Washington, DC and Lucile is a teacher at a vocational school; Aunt Peggy and her sister Eunice (listed as Unice) are living with their mother.

Lucile Elizabeth Willcocks parents (your great-great grandparents) are William Willcocks b Sep 1853 and Jennie L Cleaveland b Apr 1865 are in the 1900 (NY); 1910 (NY); 1920 (CT) censuses and 1915 NY state census. He is a clergyman for the Methodist church. I think I found his death record for 1923 in CT. He always states that his father was b Ireland and mother b NY.

I found in 1860 and 1870 Edward Willcox b Ireland and Catherine b NY. Their children are William; Margaret; Washington; Thomas; Louise; Abram; Maria - this is possibly your 3x great grandparents.

All of the above is fairly basic, but it is a start. Let me know where your research stands and I will keep you posted.

Ernest Charles Murray [14 February 2014]

Ben,

The link below has photos and other research re: the family you are looking for; I have not verified any of the information but there is also a photo of your Grandmother, my Aunt Peggy, and other family members. It follows Ernest Murray back to John Murray b 1717 in Scotland.
