Hello, Welcome! [18 July 2017]

Very pleased to have seen you here giving things a try! Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions you may have, as to either WeRelate proper or my project to align the WeRelate database with Wikidata (and thus, Wikimedia more widely).

One point I would make - as I understand it - your interest was only in a single line of ancestry up/down important European noble families. I think you are wise to define a scope for yourself. I'm not nearly so wise... :) !

My effort is more generally to establish as many Wikidata "People" as possible in appropriate WeRelate Person pages (and therefore, in the WeRelate unified family tree). Then, by looking at the WeRelate pages with associated Wikidata Identities, to find relationships missing from Wikidata and to push them back. At the same time, this also results in finding further people - attached as related on Wikidata - which aren't yet established on WeRelate. So my process is one of progressive refinement, that almost by definition - will never be completed.

So, with the exception of people that you want to place in an ancestral line - that may not yet have a Wikidata Identity, I think my effort is a superset of your desired area of work. Please advise me if I'm correct/incorrect, as I want to be sure that I'm helping you with your area of focus - and not leading you astray into my own!

Again, pleased to see your edits, looking forward to working with you... --jrm03063 14:20, 14 July 2017 (UTC)

Hi,

In fact, my interest includes all rulers from all over the world and since pharaos time, and also mythological characters. I have started with the more important European noble families because they have the more known rulers. Working by family is just the easiest way to make sure I keep focused and don't have to worry working on the same person twice. Also, quite a few rulers don't have any other known family members, yet I plan to incorporate them (since many of them have a wikipedia article).

Now on wikidata, there are many things to be done :

  • Setting labels on each person (localizing names, titles and "of" particle)
  • Setting useful descriptions to help disambiguate peoples with the same label
  • Adding official name in its original language
  • Adding birth and death dates and places
  • Titles and/or official positions

Enough work for a few years :) --Melderick 22:20, 18 July 2017 (UTC)

Ok - well - you don't need my help defining an ambitious domain! Good luck - I expect we'll continue to cross paths... --jrm03063 22:37, 18 July 2017 (UTC)
