Lucinda Alden and John Scott [21 November 2012]

Hi, Karen,

Have sent you an email, as you requested, but I'll repeat most of the message here, as well.

I would be happy to add information on Lucinda Alden to WeRelate (or to help you if you want help adding the information yourself).

My interest in this family is a little "strange". My family is that of William Hazelton Scott, who has until just recently been my biggest brick wall, and is still a problem. There are lots of family stories, but trying to document them has been nearly impossible.

One of the family stories has been that WHS's father (maybe) owned a mill, and this spring I actually tracked down the mill he was supposed to have owned. Except that he didn't, John Scott (auger maker) and his son David owned the mill.

So one of my questions is: is there any relationship between William H. Scott or his father and John Scott? (Personally, I find it doubtful, but you never know.) Another question I had was, when and from whom did John Scott buy the mill? But that doesn't seem to be leading anywhere interesting, at this point. I'd love to know if any of my family ever worked at the mill, but from the records I looked at during the half-day I spent at the Cecil County Historical Society this spring, it would be really hard to tell.

I do also have a question about the Alden family, perhaps you could answer it. On 16 Dec 1829, Reuben Segars married Margaret Alden. Do you know if Margaret was any relation to Lucinda? And if so, how do they connect? Reuben Segars was an uncle (or cousin?) of the wife of William Hazelton Scott.
