Next step: Review your GEDCOM [10 May 2016]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded Dunn Tree2.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing. We will keep your GEDCOM in the queue for two months to give you time to review it. If your GEDCOM does not contain at least one date and place for each person, preferably with at least one primary or secondary source it will possibly be rejected, See the help pages for how you should prepare your GEDCOM prior to uploading.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Click here to review your GEDCOM

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

Gedcom Review [11 May 2016]

Hi, I am an administrator with WeRelate and I am currently reviewing your GEDCOM prior to import.

You obviously did not read the help pages and FAQ's about the upload process, especially the preparing your GEDCOM for upload steps? Would you mind telling me why not, it will help to make the process better if I can understand where we may be failing.

There are some errors listed, are you happy they can be ignored? I think some corrections are required before it can be imported, Mary Walders seems to be complete rubbish. William Lea has a totaly messed up name and several others should have alternative name entries. Many places are not matched to our places database, it is important to match places otherwise some features of WeRelate will not work, some places like Devon, UK are incorrectly matched, it should be Devon, England anyway. Using abbreviations should be avoided, just putting IN as a place may link the event to India not a US State. Sources seem to be a bit messed up in places you have familysearch Family Tree match to Ancestry Public Member trees, you also have as sources geni family tree and wikitree, none of these family trees are sources, if they contain real sources then those should be used, if they do not then they are probably just reproducing the never-ending supply of poor or no researched fantasy trees.

I have returned the file for your review so you can correct the errors or delete this file and upload a better one. My recommendation would be to test the working of WeRelate by first trying a small GEDCOM, perhaps 50 people, say the ancestors and spouses of one of your grandparents or great-grandparents.

You can edit this page and add your question or comments below, see Talk page help for more about this.--Rhian 07:52, 11 May 2016 (UTC)

Gedcom Review [14 May 2016]

Just clicking import with making the suggested alterations or at least explaining why they are not errors will not get your gedcom imported. I did give you a hint that Devon is in England, matching it to Devon, England and Wales, United Kingdom is incorrect. There is no place called United Kingdom in our database and England and Wales are two different countries.

If you need help to do anything please ask, someone will be willing to help.--Rhian 15:56, 14 May 2016 (UTC)
