Sources [7 September 2014]

This being a collaborative website, with many people reading and contributing to a page, it is very useful to have sources posted to show the reason for believing the data one posts is correct. This is even more true when estimated dates are being added, such as the death date of "about 1708" for Desire (Lamberton) Cooper. At the very least some sort of note or description should be posted give the basis for the estimate, such as "Not mentioned in husband's will", "Husband remarried", "Husband called widower", etc., etc. The Middletown, Conn. records (published in Barbour, also in TAG) don't show a death date for Desire Cooper, nor does the article discussing the Lamberton family in NEHGR, p. 68:284. Thomas Cooper married 1709/10, but that was the son, so implies nothing about whether his mother was alive or dead. Jacobus in The Ancestroy of Lorenzo Ackley... says after 1708, an important difference, as do several other references covering this family such as 1987 book on Thomas Cooper of Sprinfield or Torrey's New England Marriages. Thank you. --Jrich 18:29, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

William Lord and 1st [13 September 2014]

Instead of just eliminating Hattie Nickerson as first wife of William Lord, somehow you've created two families, one with just one parent, William Lord, and the other with one parent, Hattie Nickerson with the children attributed to both. --SkippyG 03:18, 14 September 2014 (UTC)

Elkanah Hewitt's wife [25 September 2014]

I think the current theory is that Elkanah Hewitt had only one wife, who was the mother of all his children. This would be Hannah Sterry. It was all explained in an article in the Nutmegger at least 15 years ago. Before that, Temperance Kinney was just about a unanimous opinion, but her presence in the genealogy cited here was the result of a mistake.--Fran 23:16, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

Not sure who you are addressing this too, as the only people that see it are the 2 other people watching your page and I don't think either of us are watching or have contributed to this family. Further, neither Family page you mention has a single source, so they were probably copied from some random website, such sourceless pages often propagating well-known errors because this type of error is easier to find on the Internet than the right answer. You should post your comment on the Talk page of the page in question, less desirably the Talk page of the person who posted the data, or since most users are not very active, I feel the best answer is to simply cite the good sources on the page so others learn about, benefit from, and confirm them, and then change the data to match. --Jrich 03:47, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

Kelly / Traver WeRelate Site [1 May 2016]

Hey, Fran,

This is Brian Merges from Lynbrook, NY; my grandparents were Eugene and Margaret Howell. We've spoken online a few times over the years.

How are you and how is life up in upstate New York?

I'd like to add a few things to the site to clarify dates, etc.

Can you help?

Thanks.

I'd love to clarify this family ... I now have good dates for Patrick, and the names of his parents. I have had no luck, though, tracking them down in Ireland. When I get a chance, I will add that much, and of course there were all the other kids, which should also be added. Thanks for checking in, of course I remember our earlier discussions, and my sister Maggie is also in the loop. Looking forward to doing this -- Fran Dumas--Fran 00:57, 2 May 2016 (UTC)
