NEWEXPORT.GED Ready for Review [16 April 2009]

Welcome to WeRelate! WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded your GEDCOM, your next step is to preview what your pages will look like and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. When you have finished your review, your GEDCOM will be imported. Click here to review your GEDCOM.

Error importing NEWEXPORT.GED [16 April 2009]

We had an error while attempting to import your GEDCOM. This is most likely our fault. We will review the error and should have your pages ready tomorrow (or Monday if tomorrow falls on a weekend). There is no need to re-import your GEDCOM file.

For questions or problems, leave a message for Dallan or send an email to dallan@WeRelate.org.

Reviewed your GEDCOM [16 April 2009]

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I reviewed your GEDCOM. It looks great. I did re-match the places that you'd created for schools and churches to the encompassing city/township. In order to prevent an explosion in the size of our Place wiki, our policy is to not create individual pages for churches and schools (cemeteries are an exception). The place text in your events will still include the name of the school/church, although it will link to the encompassing city/township. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!--Dallan 14:29, 16 April 2009 (EDT)

By the way, it looks like we had a bug importing the GEDCOM. This review process is brand new this week. We'll try to fix it and import your GEDCOM Friday or Saturday at the latest. I appreciate your patience.--Dallan 14:32, 16 April 2009 (EDT)

Taylor Cemetery [17 April 2009]

Hi, I am a n admin for WeRelate. Its my job to help new user learn about WeRelate. We need a little more information to create a place page. We must use the place name hierarchy in naming the pages. These names are indexed and used for the search function so you can understand that the computer needs to be able to pinpoint the location. That said, I looked up a Taylor Cemetery in PA. It was in Brownsville but didn't mention the county. There is a Brownsville in Berks, Fayette and Franklin counties. I picked Berks because most early settlers started in Berks. If this is the wrong designation, please let me know.  :) Place:Taylor Cemetery, Brownsville, Berks, Pennsylvania, United States --sq 14:09, 17 April 2009 (EDT)

The description I have says it is on U.S. 40 between Centerville and Brownsville, and cites a Washington County cemetery volume. This particular Centerville is in Washington County and the Brownsville in question is just over the line in Fayette County.--Dawne 16:03, 17 April 2009 (EDT)

[29 November 2009]

Sure Dawne. My wife also descends from Alexander Saxon and Mary Baldwin through Alexander Gillespie Saxon/Margaret McCrory and their daughter Savannah Saxon. Would be interested in anything you have. I have some information at the above mentioned levels, but not much further back on the saxon/baldwin line.--Mperozziello 09:10, 29 November 2009 (EST)

Image Licensing [10 November 2010]

Hello, I am a volunteer admin and it's my job to help people learn the system. You asked for help licensing your images. I can't license your images but I can give your guidance. There are numerous licensing options, but most images fall into one of these categories:

  • Original published in US before 1923
  • Low resolution copy of an historical photograph. (When you reduce the image before upload, the resolution is reduced.)
  • Snippet of historical document
  • Work of US government--Public domain
  • If you took the picture, select the CC-BY-SA
  • If you know the photographer, get written permission.

Hope this helps. Please be aware that images left in the "Help needed" category for longer than two weeks will be deleted. If you have any more question please leave me a message. :)--sq 15:20, 10 November 2010 (EST)

School pages [10 November 2010]

I redirected the pages for Evergreen High School, Seattle, King, Washington, United States and Consolidated in College Station to their appropriate city pages. Countries, states, counties, cities, townships and cemeteries can have their own "Place" page; schools don't. The links aren't broken. If anyone clicks on a link that might appear for Evergreen or Consolidated, they will automatically be redirected to the Seattle or College Station page. -- Amy (Ajcrow) 21:31, 10 November 2010 (EST)

Places [11 November 2010]

Hi Dawne - my name is Brenda. I'm a volunteer administrator here at WeRelate. I wanted to let you know I updated a Place page you created Place:Spencer Central School, Spencer (town), Tioga, New York, United States to redirect to the place page for Spencer (town). Towns are the smallest basic geographic unit we use for Place pages (with the exception of cemeteries), so the place page you created for the school isn't within the guidelines. However, there are two ways you can show the school if you want.

The first is the way the images are set up now (see Image:Spencer school poem 1.jpg. When you use the "|" symbol, the text on the right shows up, but the link is to the Place page. The second is to use the "Description" field, if available, to put the school name, so that it shows up as the description next to the Place page.

I hope this is helpful. Thanks, --Brenda (kennebec1) 22:32, 11 November 2010 (EST)

Pages for living people [22 November 2010]

Hello Dawne, I noticed that you added a page and photos for Person:Teresa Wright (1). WeRelate does not allow pages for living people due to privacy concerns. If Teresa is not deceased, please delete her page and photos. If you have any questions, feel free to post here, I'll watch this page. Thank you, (volunteer admin) --Jennifer (JBS66) 09:52, 22 November 2010 (EST)

name incorrect for picture [7 September 2016]

There were three pictures toward the bottom of this page under research tips. It listed the middle picture as my father, Kenneth Burgess. However, the picture is my uncle, Ferrell Burgess - not my father. I tried to "fix" the name and all of a sudden the picture disappeared. Do you know anyone or how to fix my error? Thanks!
