Hadley, had gone as a soldier in Turner's comp. from the E. part of the
Col. in Philip's war early in Apr. 1676, was in the Falls fight of May,
in 1678 m. Sarah Gardner, perhaps d. of Samuel, had eight ch. all of
wh. d. under age, exc. John, b. 1686; and Sarah, 1693. JOHN, Andover,
by w. Sarah, had John, and Thomas, tw. wh. d. 17 and 18 Mar.
1691, prob. soon after b. and John, again, wh. d. 17 June 1699, and perhaps
others. JOSEPH, New Haven, a propr. 1685, may have been gr.s.
of William, tho. it may not. be kn. wh. s. was his f. or he may have been
a resid. much earlier, and h. of that Mary wh. had there bapt. Hackaliah
and Eliasaph, tw. 9 Apr. 1643; Joseph, 24 Jan. 1647; Mary, and
Sarah, not perhaps tw. 24 July 1664. ROBERT, New Haven 1646, had
been serv. of Richard Church, was single, when he made his will, 1648,
in wh. no ment. of any relat. of his name is to be seen. ROGER, Ipswich
1648, a tanner, came in the Elizabeth from London 1635, aged 21,
d. perhaps at Lynn, 20 Jan. 1666. SAMUEL, Andover, m. 27 May
1672, Susanna Gutterson, and tho. her d. is not ment. this same man, m.
2 Apr. 1694, Sarah Bridges. At Andover is rec. the m. of Nicholas
Holt, 21 May 1666, with "wid. Preston," wh. may have been mo. of
Samuel, but wh. was his f. is beyond my kn. THOMAS, Danvers, then
call. Salem vill. freem. 1690, had m. 15 Apr. 1669, Rebecca, d. of
Francis Nurse, had Rebecca, b. 12 May 1670; Mary, 15 Feb. 1672;
John, 20 Nov. 1673; and Martha, 21 Oct. 1676; and he d. 1697. His
w.
was d. of that sad Rebecca, execut. as a witch; and his only s. John
was early lost on a fishing voyage. WILLIAM, Dorchester 1635, came
in the Truelove, the latest of seventeen sh. from London to Boston that
yr. aged 44, with w. Mary, 34, and four ch. Elizabeth 11; Sarah, 8; Mary,
6; and John, 3; rem. to New Haven in season to be among first subscr.
of the compact, 1639; and there had Jehiel, bapt. 14 June 1640; Hackaliah,
and Eliasaph, tw. 9 Apr. 1643; and Joseph, 24 Jan. 1647. I
suppose mo. of these latter ch. was a d. of Robert Seabrook, wh.
gave his s. Jehiel P. and Thomas Fairchild, jr. his home lot. He
prob. d. not long after date of his will, 9 July 1647, in wh. he speaks of
childr. of the first and sec. w. but does not enable us to disting. them,
and by conject. I should make of the ch. brot. from Eng. the greater
part if not all by first w. three s. and three ds. Edward, Daniel, John,
Elizabeth Sarah, and Mary; but of the ds. refers to one as w. of Joseph
Alsop, prob. Elizabeth to ano. as w. of William Meeker, prob. Sarah;
and we, therefore, may well suppose that Mary was then unm. His
wid. Mary m. Thomas Kimberly. He owned est. in Giggleswick,
Co. York, in the most W. part of the W. Riding. In that parish
of the hill country were b. the parents of the celebr. William
Paley, and of its high sch. his f. was master. Sev. towns
in Eng. are call. Preston; and out of nine persons of
