In this yr. he was made deac. of the first ch. and rep. for Hadley. Judge
Sewall, in his diary, chronicles his bur. 3 Feb. 1686. His will of 7
Aug. 1682, with codic. 4 Dec. 1685, pro. 18 Feb. foll. disposes of good
est. names w. s. Eleazer, Timothy, Samuel, and John, direct, this last for
college, ds. Hannah Negus, Abigail East, Mehitable, and Elizabeth also notices
Henry and Nathaniel as dec. so that prob. both had reach. mature
yrs. A Mary P. wh. may have been his mo. or ch. d. 2 July 1640. he
was much esteemed; and his youngest s. John might have made good
the place of Christian min. (that his f. was desir. to undertake, as
Farmer tells), had he obt. the educat. intend. but prob. he d. early.
Elizabeth m. a Ruggles. HENRY, New London, on the tax list of 1667, but
never again on any rec. there, says Miss Caulkins. HENRY, Charlestown,
may have been s. of Henry of Dedham, tho. it is not very prob. for
by w. Mary, he had Joseph, b. 19 Feb. 1675, of course less than 18 and
1/2 yrs. younger than his f. Contra. to this suppos. also is the will of deac.
Henry speak. of est. of s. henry dec. in his hands, as belong. to other of
his own ch. HENRY, Charlestown, s. of col. John, m. 27 May 1708, Joanna,
d. of col. Joseph Lynd, wid. of Samuel Everton, and d. 14 Dec.
1729, prob. without issue. JAMES, Taunton 1659, s. of William of the
same, neph. of William Parker, wh. left him small legacy. He had James,
b. 1 Jan. 1662; Nathaniel, 25 Mar. 1664; Sarah, 17 Mar. 1667; William,
21 Aug. 1669. Perhaps he rem. to Providence, where one of this
name took the o. of alleg. to Charles II. in May 1682. JOHN, Dover,
or Portsmouth, d. 1642. JOHN, Dedham 1638, a famous min of Wrentham
(wh. is a. 30 ms. N. E. from Ipswich, Eng.), where he obt. his living
as rector, 1609, and m. 6 Jan. 1612, Elizabeth a sis. of famous dr. Ames,
wh. gave him favor in the eyes of puritans, was desired to accept office
here in sev. place, espec. Cambridge, perhaps in connex. with the newly
begun coll. but prefer. to go home in the Autumn of 1641. Felt I. 212,
thinks, he was made townsman of Salem, but the prob. is at least equal,
that ano. man was thus honored. He was accomp. to Eng. by John
Humphrey, Esq. and then honored in the triumph of the cause, made one
of the assembly of divines at Westminster; was founder of the Congreg.
ch. 1650, after the N. E. pattern, and d. 2 Sept. 1660, aged 78. Calamy,
Cont, II. 797. Winthrop II. 86. Lamson. Lechford, 38, refers to him
shortly bef. he sailed. His name he wrote without final s. His w. Elizabeth
was bur. 22 Jan. 1659. He was bred at the Univ. of Cambridge, having
his a. B. at Catharine Hall, 1596, and taking his A. M. 1600 and B. D.
1608 at Clare Hall as the Registrar of the Univ. certif. to me. JOHN,
Dorchester, a baker, came prob. in the Mary and John, 1630, desired
