of the modest histor. made to prolong the frolic; while the genealogist
felt that nothing print. in a book could be false. Such a canon of criticism
has, indeed, never been promulg. as binding, but too often passes
as sacred tradit. with some, long after rejection by the majority. Forty-one
of this time had in 1834, been gr. at Harv. alone, and thrityeight
at all other N. E. coll.

    PARKHURST, GEORGE, Watertown, freem. 10 May 1643, brought
from Eng. s. George, d. Phebe, and perhaps other ch. Barry says his
w. was Susanna, and I kn. that in 1643 he m. sec. w. Susanna, wid. of
John Simpson, sold his est. at W. 1645, and rem. to Boston, there was
liv. in 1655. Phebe m. Thomas Arnold. GEORGE, Watertown, s. of
the preced. b. in Eng. a. 1618, m. 16 Dec. 1643, Sarah, perhaps d. of
John Brown, had John, b. 10 June 1644; Daniel bapt. in Boston 10
June 1649; Sarah, b. 14 Sept. 1649; and he m. sec. w. 24 Sept. 1650,
Mary, perhaps d. of William Pheese or Veazie wh. d. 9 Mar. 1681; and
he d. 16 Mar. 1699. GEORGE, Boston, s. prob. of the preced. by w.
Elizabeth had Elizabeth b. 16 May 1678; and Sarah, 1 Apr. 1680. JOHN,
Watertown, s. of the sec. George, by w. Abigail, d. of sec. Edward Garfield,
had John, b. 26 Feb. 1762; Abigail, 10 Sept. 1674; Sarah, 26
Nov. 1676; Rachel, 30 Dec. 1678; Elizabeth 18 Sept. 1681; Mary, 23
Dec. 1683; George, 3, by Bond, but Barry gives 17 Jan. 1686; Samuel.
11 Apr. 1688; and Hannah, 17 Apr. 1690. He was freem. 1690,
and d. 12 Sept. 1725; and his wid. d 18 Oct. 1726. JOSEPH, Chelmsford,
perhaps s. of George the first, by w. Rebecca had Mary, b. 10 Aug.
1657; Rebecca, 14 Aug. 1659; and Joseph, 12 Jan. 1661; was freem.
1690. Prob. his s. Joseph was one of the first sett. of Plainfield a. 1700.
In the early rec. the name is Parkis, or Perkis.
