Fascinating Story [7 December 2010]

Great story and interesting read. How special it must be to the descendants of the author.--BobC 23:04, 23 October 2010 (EDT)

Thanks for the comment Bob - the record of my 20 year old greatgrandmother's last day at sea sends goosebumps up my neck everytime I read it - especially when you know that this stretch of coast is today known as the shipwreck coast and during the 19th century this was a major shipping route for immigrants to the colonies of Victoria and New South Wales. Unfortunately this beautiful but rugged and inhospitable coast, with its rough seas and lack of lighthouses, made it difficult and dangerous to traverse, and claimed more than 50 ships. Hence the cheers that went up when the first light since rounding Africa was seen.--Kenamoore 04:24, 7 December 2010 (EST)
