Schokland Island, gemeente, village? [19 apr 2012]

The referral to Schokland as a former gemeente, only part of Overijssel till 1962 and Flevoland is a bit to simple I think.

As a "gemeente", Schokland existed till 1859, the year that King Willem III ordered the abandonment of the Island for reasons of safety. The Island and Municipality of Schokland were then added to the Municipality of Kampen. From 1942 to 1962, the Island was not part of any Municipality or Province. Through the "Openbaar Lichaam Noordoostelijke Polder", the whole aerea was governed directly by the national government (Ministerie van Verkeer en Waterstaat). Flevoland did not become a Province before 1986.

I suggest to add Schokland as a place type Island and also add the villages that were once on the Island: Emmeloord, Ens, Zuiderent and Middenbuurt (the first two not to be mixed up with the later town and village that were built near by in the Noordoostpolder; Middenbuurt was recognized as a village again in 2008, now named Schokland. Before that you were supposed to understand that Schokland was near Nagele).

The Island can than be part of the different gemeenten/Municipalities, Provinces and others alike.--Bronquest 05:33, 19 April 2012 (EDT)
