Great Edstone is a small village located in the North York Moors, about 30 miles (48 km) north of York. It sits on an isolated hill close to the River Dove. GENUKI states it is 2 miles south-southeast of Kirkbymoorside. Prior to the nationwide municipal reorganization of 1974, Great Edstone was part of Kirkbymoorside Rural District.
