Burneston is a village and civil parish in the Hambleton district of North Yorkshire, England. According to the 2001 Census it had a population of 244, increasing to 311 at the 2011 Census. The village is close to the A1(M) road and is about south-east of Bedale. Prior to the nationwide municipal reorganization of 1974, Bishopdale was part of Bedale Rural District. Historically, it was an ecclesiastical parish in the wapentake of Hang East.
