Buan is a community (or parish) in the Welsh county of Gwynedd, located on the Llŷn Peninsula. Until 1974 it was in the historic Welsh county of Caernarvonshire. It includes the villages of Boduan and Rhydyclafdy, and had a population of 469 at the UK census of 2001, increasing to 484 at the 2011 census.
According to Wikipedia Buan was formed as a civil parish in 1934 from the former parishes of Ceidio, Llandudwen and Llanfihangel Bachellaeth, but A Vision of Britain through Time provides evidence that it existed in the 19th century.
A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Buan (under its older names) from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:
- "BODVEAN, or Bodfaen, a parish in Pwllheli [registration] district, Carnarvon; 2½ miles SE of Nevin [Nefyn], and 4 WNW of Pwllheli [railway] station. It has a post office under Pwllheli. Acres: 2,572. Real property: £1,434. Population: 382. Houses: 84. The property is divided between two. Bodvean Hall is the seat of Lord Newborough. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Bangor. Value: £198. Patron: the Bishop of Bangor. The church is modern, and has monuments of the Wynnes. There are a Calvinistic Methodist chapel, and a slightly endowed school."
