Spouses [13 April 2014]

I'm trying to clean up the marriages on this page. I have yet to find any source that lists a spouse for Roelof nor a mother for any of the children on this page. I am inclined to remove Jeanne Des Marets as wife and certainly Hendrick Seubering... and list all of the children under Roelof Seubering and Unknown. Does anyone have additional thoughts or objections? --Jennifer (JBS66) 17:25, 14 February 2012 (EST)

In general, I am inclined to keep the named spouse, which in this case would be Jeanne, but that is just instinct, and maybe wrong as it is based on the need to put real people in a genealogy, which is the exact trap that I should be avoiding instead. Jeanne's name looks quite foreign for a marriage in Drenthe, although even that does not really prove anything. Hendrick could be Hendrickje, and since she died before her child was born, she should at least be disconnected from that child.

A search on Drenlias gives no results for this era, so with that in mind unknown might indeed be the best choice. --Enno 12:49, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

Thanks. Any idea about the possibility that Jeanne really was his spouse? If sources were lost by fire, we won't be able to find much, but she does appear in lots of trees of Ancestry, where I still have to find a real source. I see a book mentioned here, but for me a book is just as much legend as an on-line tree. --Enno 18:51, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

I'm a member of the NYGBS, and so far, I'm not seeing a mention of a Jeanne Des Marets in their journal. I do see text on Jan Stryker, and I'll add some sources to the pages for his children soon. --Jennifer (JBS66) 19:06, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

I've not been able to find anything but suspect online trees stating that Roelof Seubering married a Jeanne Des Marets. There is a book here that says Roelof was the father of 5 children with an unknown wife. I'm still feeling the best fix would be to delete Family:Roelof Seubering and Jeanne Des Marets (2) and Family:Roelof Seubering and Hendrick Seubering (1) and both wives. If better information is found in the future, that can be added at that time. Any objections? --Jennifer (JBS66) 18:44, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

I agree on disconnecting both wives. I can't comment on deleting persons though, because I've been away from the site for a while, and don't know the consensus on that. I'm in favor of removing isolated and undocumented persons, but not everyone agrees with that. --Enno 19:43, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

I think the Next Steps talk and this one have subtle differences :) With the Next Steps, it's trying to look at ways to clear out some of the garbage uploaded to the site during 2007-2008. At that time, WR had no data check during GEDCOM upload. So, living people, files with absolutely no dates or places, etc were allowed through. Now, we have both the initial data check and, if the file passes that stage, a check by a human. Two easy examples on this page that would be, in my opinion, slated for deletion are this one and this one. If the file has a high percentage of dates and places, then I believe these will need to be cleaned by hand, as time goes on, from interested researchers. That's where this Roelof discussion comes in... Since we spent time looking at available resources, know about Dutch and New Netherland research, and cannot find truth to these other two marriages, we can suggest the pages be deleted based on our cleanup efforts. Bedoel je dat er nog documenten gedigitaliseerd moeten worden, zoals testamenten, rechtbankdocumenten, waaruit het bestaan van Hendrickje dan wel Jeanne wel kan worden afgeleid? Mijn eigen zoektocht op de bekende Nederlandse sites plus Ancestry en FamilySearch heeft nog tot niets anders geleid, dan dat beide echtgenotes in Amerika verzonnen zijn. --Enno 11:30, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

Enno, nee dat is allemaal gedigitaliseerd (en uitgetypt), alleen nog niet zolang en niet vrij op het internet en zeker niet zo dat het in Amerika kan zijn. Het staat op cd die ongeveer 10 euro per stuk zijn. Ik heb er een stuk of tien uit noord Drenthe.

Ik ben een aantal jaren uit de running geweest, en heb de gene die dit werk deed nog een aantal foto's beloofd. Ik durf nu niet te vragen naar deze gegevens voordat ik de foto's opdiep.

Op verschillende pagina's op het internet komen deze personen voor met 5 kinderen. Deze heer is waarschijnlijk meerdere keren getrouwd. Ik vermoed ook dat het allemaal al te boek is gesteld. Groet, --Lidewij 12:06, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

OK, duidelijk. Ik ben voor het gemak even op Nederlands over gegaan, en neem aan dat Jennifer het nog wel volgt. :-) Er is verder geen haast, anders dan dat Roeloef al een hele tijd in een lijst met dubbelen staat, met heel wat meer 'moeilijke gevallen'. Het lukt mij niet altijd het Engels te goed te volgen. Ik heb ME, wat betekend dat concentratie vaak een probleem is. Dat is dan als kijken/turen door een heel vuile bril, heel vermoeiend.

Kan er een lijst met probleem-Nederlanders komen, gelinkt naar Help:NLHelpdesk? Wanneer ik even tijd/energie heb wil ik daar bij wel helpen. --Lidewij 12:58, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

Ik kan er een paar toevoegen, want ik zie er nog een paar in de duplicates list. Een zit in Leiden, een ander bij Grijpskerk in Groningen, waar ik zelf qua onderzoek meer thuis ben, eigenlijk. Dan hoop ik toch dat wanneer je nog eens iets op deze site weghaalt, dat op een andere manier doet. BV een berichtje van verwijdering op de pagina, zodat mensen zijn terug te vinden.
