Person talk:Robert White (4)

I am removing the following information from this person:
- Parents
- Birth date and place
- Christening date and place

The reasons for removing this data are:
- the data is highly suspect
- no credible source is cited
- the original research on this family (NEHGR 55[1901]:22-31), which included parish register entries from both Messing (where he died and may have been born) and Shalford (where he was married and his children were baptized) did not discover his baptismal record or the names of his parents.

While subsequent research may have found more information on Robert White, the source cited here for his christening date is the Ancestral File, where Robert White of Messing, Essex is put in a family living in Somerset, England. The Ancestral File data is clearly nonsense, including the identification of his parents as Richard and Alice White of Somerset.

No source is cited for his birth date, which happens to be exactly 24 years before his marriage date, and thus appears to be an assumption. The likelihood of a birth date (as opposed to a christening date) from the 16th century being documented is small.

The (uncited) identification of his parents as Richard White of Coventry, Surrey and Helen Lady Kiston of S. Petterton, Somerset (with another Robert White in the same family) is clearly a case of confusion of two Robert Whites.

NOTE: The identification of alternate parents as Robert White and Alice Wright of Essex is plausible, as there was an Alice White buried in Messing, Essex in 1591 (as per NEHGR 55:23). Therefore, while no source is cited and I cannot attest to the validity of this information, I am moving the alternate parents to the parents. This does not mean that I endorse this information, only that I am not sure that it is incorrect.

Makes sense to me; thanks for doing this, DataAnalyst. Jillaine 15:26, 30 May 2010 (EDT)
Thanks for going through that the thought process and writing it out! --Amelia 18:47, 30 May 2010 (EDT)

Unlinked him from parents Robert White and Alice Wright - more research shows that they were a Somerset couple (Robert White and Alice Unknown) mixed up with an Essex woman (Alice Wright). Sorted them out and unlinked this Robert from them. --DataAnalyst 21:03, 4 January 2012 (EST)
