The only evidence is that the pension file proves Joshua Walker lived in
Washington Co. by 1776 after leaving Loudoun Co., VA and that a Joshua
Walker later married Elizabeth Bunde in 1787. I'm not aware of any children
from this marriage. There certainly could have been another Joshua in Wash.
Co., but I haven't found any evidence of another and haven't found any
evidence of a Joshua Walker/Elizabeth Bunde family anywhere else after 1787
either.
There are also several circumstantial links to this marriage. Rev. Thomas
Woolsey, who performed the marriage, was the minister for the Baptist Church
in St. Clair, VA. The church was founded by Rev. Tidence Lane. Tidence
Lane went on to found other churches in Southwest VA and Northeast TN as
well, including Bent Creek Baptist Church in Whitesburg where many allied
Hawkins Walker families (including my ancestors) belonged. Joshua Walker's
youngest brother, Andrew A. Walker, married Mary Lane, granddaughter of Rev
Tidence lane. In addition, the middle name Tilson followed in my family for
many generations. The Tilson family of VA and TN are descendants of William
Tilson, who lived in St. Clair/Chilhowie, VA. His children were also
married by Thomas Woolsey during this same time period.
While I can't say without a doubt that Elizabeth Bunde was Joshua Walker's
first wife, I believe she was by a "preponderance of the evidence".
Likewise, I can't say without a doubt that Middle Fork John Walker was in
fact Hawkins County John Walker, but I believe he by a preponderance of the
evidence also. As we both know, what sometimes appears obvious is later
found to be incorrect.
The only evidence I have seen that raises a question in my mind about HCJW
being MFJW is the fact that MFJW signed a Washington Co. petition and my
HCJW signed his will with an X. While I can think of several explanations
for why this could be, they are certainly speculation.

One obvious argument that could be made regarding the John Walker signature
on the Washington Co., VA petition is that it might have not been made by
MFJW, but by another John Walker in the county (Wigton John Walker IV,
Meadow Creek John Walker, etc). Since the other men who signed the petition
are familiar ones to this discussion and the area MFJW lived (Aaron Lewis,
Thomas Woolsey, etc.), I believe it most likely was the signature of MFJW.

Some of the families from this area went into Smythe Co. Va and Casey-Mercer Co. KY. Casey was a part of Lincoln Co. KY until 1807. Researching George White and Eunice Dungans (m. in Washington Co. VA in 1795--and George died in Casey Co. KY in 1824)

I noticed that your content contained information about this person's birth and death dates and places, yet you have not put this information in the form fields that WeRelate allots for it in the Person template. Your Joshua Walker will be easier to find and match when people search if that information is filled in, especially now that the search function is improved. I hope I'm not stepping on toes, but I'm going to go ahead and add it, especially as this is a "featured page" this week.--TomChatt 02:05, 14 August 2008 (EDT)
- Hi Tom. Somehow I overlooked this particular comment. No, no toes being stepped on, in fact I welcomed your additions. I usually focus on the "personal data box", in the main article, primarily because the "logic train" is usually more complex than I thought could be accomodated with the data in the sidebar---or at least that was my view back when you wrote your comment. I've since come around to the view that the notes in the sidebar can do a decent job for this purpose, particular after looking at User:Beth's work on a few of the pages she's edited extensively. I'm not especially interested in making more work for myself, so this (side bar) may eventually be the way I go with this. However, there remain some significant issues with the way information is input into the text boxes, and I'm waiting to see how redesign of the data entry page goes before I make any systematic change. Bill, I don't believe that this Joshua Walker is the son of John Walker (Hawkins County John Walker). I've been working several of his children and there is another Joshua born bet. 1771-1780 in the 1830 Census and two Hawkins County Tax Lists in the 1830's that fits much better with John's other children. Besides, if this Joshua WAS John's son, then there would be approximately a 50-year time span of having children, about double the average... I believe John was likely an older brother of Joshua, not his father.
