Person talk:Joseph Nichols (34)

Church records [28 June 2019]

I removed Source:Framingham, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States. Church Records, 1861-1924: "Converted 29 Feb 1757 and with wife admitted to the Church 27 Feb 1763. Selectman 1779. He and wife recommended to the church in Fitzwilliam, Cheshire, New Hampshire, 3 May 1781" because a source covering 1861-1924 would not mention events in the 1700s. I believe the information comes from Source:Hemingway, Patricia S. Hemingways : Past and Present and Allied Families, because the unique date 1757, being miscopied from Source:Barry, William. History of Framingham, Massachusetts p. 341-2, which says 1756, and which itself errs in identifying which Joseph Nichols moved to Framingham. So do not want to give the authority of church records to a couple of mistaken secondary accounts. --Jrich 02:34, 29 June 2019 (UTC)

Ditto Source:Merriam, John McKinstry. First Parish of Farmingham, 1701 to 1951. No Joseph Nichols showed up in searching, and turning every one of the 31 pages yielded no mention of him. It is not a transcription of reords but a history of the church. See also, the last paragraph of the narrative, on Family:Joseph Nichols and Sarah Hemenway (1) showing that it was a different Joseph Nichols that moved to Fitzwilliam. --Jrich 04:28, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
