Person talk:John Niles (1)

Birth location [18 October 2010]

The single place where most genealogical errors are made is in connecting a colonial ancestor to their pre-emigration records. This is the one place sources must be demanded. I am removing Cardiff, Glamorgan, Wales as the birth location of John Niles because no source has been presented. In fact the birthdate is left as Abt 1603 which means the birth location is not known or else a precise date and parents would be known as well. To supply such information precisely, one should be citing a baptism register, or Bible record or contemporary letter, etc. It would be great to know this information, and if there is a source, a great service would be provided by citing it, but if not, a disservice is done by presenting something that is unknown as known. --Jrich 16:40, 18 October 2010 (EDT)
