Person talk:John Hayden (5)

This man not related to James of Charlestown or William of Connecticut and not son of Gideon of Devonshire. [17 December 2011]

There were three men with the Hayden surname who came to New England before 1640. John Hayden of Dorchester and Braintree came in 1632 (The Great Migration Begins, 2:890-93); James Hayden of Charlestown came in 1635 (The Great Migration, 3:277-80); William Hayden of Hartford, Windsor, Fairfield and Killingworth was here by 1637 as he served in the Pequot War; Anderson (The Great Migration Begins, 3:2100) says that there is no record of William Hayden in Massachusetts Bay (so he did not come in 1630). Neither of the Great Migration sketches (John Hayden, James Hayden) mentions either of the other two men; i.e., no "Associations." In addition, there appears to be no credible evidence tying any of these three men to Gideon and Margaret (Davy) Hayden of Devonshire; certainly Anderson, Jacobus and Wyman to not mention that couple at all.--jaques1724 21:56, 17 December 2011 (EST)
