Person talk:Jane Unknown (891)

I'll make a wild assumption here, but I'm guessing that your Jane Carlock is related to the Carlocks of Southwest Virginia, very likely a descendant of David Carlock who settled on near Brock's Gap in Augusta County. A number of the Carlocks left Virginia for the Carolina's during the French and Indian War. Some of them returned around 1770 to settled on Thompson's Creek (AKA Baker Creek, AKA Hutton Creek) near Glade Springs in the Holston River Valley---which is why I've an interest in them. There's been a fair bit of work done on them. See Source:Carlock, 1929 for the major source. Not all of what you see there is I think accurate, but its a useful source for Carlock information. You might want to look at Carlock Family in Southwest Virginia, a work in progress, for background. Q 21:13, 24 July 2008 (EDT)

Thanks, but her maiden name has been questioned and I believe, rightly so. There is no documented evidence that her maiden name was Carlock. That was taken from other rootsweb charts and has not been proved. There was a different David Jacksom who did marry a Carlock (Mary Melinda 'Polly') but that David and Polly did not stay in Overton County. That may have been the basis of the confusion.

BTW, a descendant has now joined the Jackson Group at FTDNA. --Janiejac 01:23, 29 April 2011 (EDT)
