Hatfields of NJ & VA [6 July 2016]

It was demonstrated a couple of decades ago that the several Hatfield families of western Virginia in the 18th century have NO CONNECTION WHATEVER to the line of Abraham Hatfield who married into the Mellyn family in New Jersey and Staten Island. Hatfield is not a unique name in England. These two groups are completely separate and immigrated separately to different parts of the American colonies. Forcing a connection between the two is only wishful thinking. On this -- and also on the spurious "Goff" as a middle name -- I strongly recommend everyone read Leslie Collier's discussion at Jerry Hatfield's website.
