Person:Zerviah Calkins (1)

The Barbour collection of CT vital records indicates Zerviah Calkins as the mother of all the children listed, while the Phelps Family in American by Phelps and Servin suggests Theodosia Root as the mother of John, Solomon, Jedediah, and Paul. Perhaps the death record for a Zerviah Calkins in 1776 lead Phelps and Servin to conclude that John Phelps born 1779 could not be the son of Zerviah Calkins and thus must be the son of Theodosia Root. However, the Zerviah Calkins who died in 1776 was probably the daughter of John and Sarah (Huntington) Calkins, and she was born in Lebanon CT on 4 Oct. 1735 (Barbor Collections of CT Vital Records, NYPL Microlm ZI-306, citing Lebanon Vitals Records Vol 1 p 45). It is more likely that Paul married someone close to his age, such as Zerviah Calkins born 18 Oct. 1748, daughter of Solomon and Zerviah Dewey Calkins.Solomon Calkins born Lebanon Ct 4 April 1724, son of John and Katharine (Foster) Calkins married 1 Lebanon CT 3 Nov. 1742 Mary Gardiner (Died Lebanon CT 16 May 1743) married 2nd Lebanon CT 16 June 1744 Zerviah Dewey (born Lebanon CT 28 Jan. 1726; died Lebanon CT 29 Nov. 1749) daughter of William and Mercy (Bayley) Dewey.Jerusha Dewey who married Paul Phelps was the sister of Zerviah Dewey who married Solomon Calkins?Most likely the mother of all children, as noted in their birth and bapt records.
