TIDWELL, ZADA Blocton Enterprise, Thursday, 15 January 1920 DEATH OF MISS TIDWELL There has perhaps never been a death more deeply deplored by the citizens of this town and vicinity than that of Miss Zada Tidwell, which occurred at the Fairfield hospital Monday afternoon shortly after 2 o’clock. Miss Tidwell had not been well for the past month, in fact, while visiting her sister, Mrs. Ceph Blake, at Bessemer, during the holidays, she became ill, but recovered apparently, and returned home and to her position which she has filled so efficiently at J. B. Davie’s store for several years. But her strength gave way, and she worked only two days until she was taken very ill with what was thought to be appendicitis, and was carried to the hospital on Wednesday of last week, where it was found she was also suffering from an abscess in her side which had been operated on a year ago, when she had pneumonia and came near dying at that time. At the hospital everything that skilled physicians and good nursing could do was done in a vain effort to save her. Miss Tidwell was a member of the West Blocton Baptist Church and an enthusiastic worker there, teaching a Sunday school class and taking an active interest in church work. She was pleasant and cheerful, always greeting her acquaintances with a smile that won for her a warm place in the hearts of many. The funeral services were held at the West Blocton Baptist Church, which was filled to overflowing with the many who came to pay their last respects. Rev. Frank Willis Barnett of Birmingham and Rev. . . . Ensley, pastor, conducted the services. The remains were left to rest at Mt. Carmel Cemetery amid a bank of flowers, loving tributes from relatives and friends. She is survived by her father, Mr. Phelan Tidwell, and several brothers and sisters, all of whom are bowed down in grief over the loss of one of their family so greatley beloved. |
