Canterberry and James Hill posted bond in the amount of $200 for Shadrack Canterberry, appointed the administrator of the estate of Zachariah Canterberry, deceased. This was approved on 25 October 1852 in Bibb County, Alabama by John W. Suttle, Judge of Probate. S Canterberry signed with the mark of "x", Zachariah C signed as Zachariah Canterberry and James Hill signed as James Hill.

Appraisers of the estate, Robert Hill, P. Hill, and James Hill presented the appraisal of the estate of Zachariah Canterberry on 25 Oct 1852.

Besides the property named in the forgoing list of appraisement there is in the hands of John J. Canterberry which he has refused to deliver to me 1 Set of Black Smith tools and one shot gun. Signed by Shadrack his mark (x) Canterberry

The property was sold on 10 Dec 1852. Buyers were Shadrack Canterberry, Samuel Canterberry, A. P. Canterbury, George K. Clifton, Andrew S. Canterbury, Samuel J. Canterbury, John J. Canterbury, Wm Robbins, Clinton Canterbury, and George Farley. Note that Shadrack Canterbury purchased one set of blacksmith tools for $25.00. Total of sale: $57.81

In Probate Court Regular Term on 12 Sept 1853, the administrator, Shadrack Canterberry, requested that the estate of Zacchariah Canterberry be declared insolvent. Monies consisted of $57.81, an account on the estate of E. Black for $3.50, a note on A. J. Boling for $3.00 and cash on hand at death of deceased 15 cents. The deceased owned no real estate at the time of his death. He then listed a schedule showing the amount of debts existing against the estate: Alsey Clements Judgement - $7.88; N. J. Canterberry - $10.00; William Nichols - $6.00; Tuscaloosa Manufacturing Co. - $2.40; and J. J. Canterberry - $20.00. Besides the above it is stated that the expenses of the administration court costs etc. are to be added.


The nine heirs of Zachariah Canterberry received the distributive share of his estate on 05 Jun 1854. The administrator of the estate was Shadrack Canterberry. The sum of $6.43; the final valuation of the estate after deductions from the sum of $65.45 by the administrator for his charges including interest, court costs, and the John C. Canterberry claim, was distributed to the following heirs:

Samuel Canterberry, Rhoda Cunningham, Daniel Canterberry, Zachariah Canterberry, Nicholas Canterberry, John Canterberry, Sylvester Canterberry, and Missouri Canterberry.
