Quote from Ken Kirch: Enlisted Co. F 13th michigan Infantry 5 Oct 1861.

The correct date of the death of York Hathaway is somewhat problematic. He died of disease in Sep/Oct 1863 while attached to the Union Army outside Chattanooga TN.

The U. S. Quartermaster, Roll of Honor, Vol. XI, (Government Printing Office, Washington, D.C. - 1866), 106, Chattanooga - Hathaway, York C. - Private - Co. F - 13th Michigan Infantry - d. 2 Sep 1863 - Section B - Grave 158. (buried in Chattanooga National Cemetery)

However, I also have a copy of the Civil War pension file (large file) of his mother which indicates he died 7 Oct 1863, the date with which I am most comfortable. Source: War of the Rebellion, Claim No. 20,623 for original pension for the Dependent Parent of York C. Hathaway End of quote.
