Winifred Amor Rice was born in 1899 at Plumstead in the south-eastern suburbs of London, daughter of Catharine Eleanor Rice, formerly Amor, and her husband Joseph Rice, a constable in the Metropolitan Police. Winifred was the second of the couple's three children. In both the 1901 and 1911 censuses Winifred was living with her parents and siblings at the Police Quarters on Harrow Manor Way in the Abbey Wood area of Erith.
Winifred never married. Her father died on the Isle of Sheppey in 1938. Her mother then appears to have moved to Gillingham on the mainland, and died in Chatham in 1945. Winifred acted as executor for her mother's estate.
Winifred died in 1953, aged 53. Immediately before her death she was living at 86 Minster Road in Minster on the Isle of Sheppey. She left a will, leaving her estate to be administered by a Joyce Daphne Newcombe.
