She died from cholera and the measles.^S2 When writing to his wife on February 28th, 1859 from Mount Ararat, Australia, where he had gone seeking gold, her father makes reference to his daughter.^S1 So, almost six years after her death, her father is unaware of her death. He presumably did not hear of her death until he returned to be with relatives in California in 1874.
