This William Whalley was Christened in Preston, but was likely born in Kirkham. Providing the IGI submission is correct, His mother was born and married in Kirkham, and his younger brother, Cuthbert, was also born there.

We believe that the William Whalley living in Bentham in 1841 is this William Whalley ^S1. His age is a correct match for the William Whalley Christened in Preston in 1796, and the 1851 census gives his birth place as Kirkham ^S2

The 1841 census does not list family relationships, however there is a Christening record of Cuthbert Whalley, son of William and Mary Whalley in Kirkham, Lancashire born in 1825 that is consistent with this family.

   William Whalley, head, married, age 65, occupation Formerly weaver now pauper, born Lancashire, Kirkham
   Mary Whalley, wife, married, age 62, no occupation listed, born Lancashire, Kirkham.
   
   These are clearly the William and Mary Whaley in the 1841 census. This establishes that they were born in Kirkham, William about 1786 and Mary about 1789.
