No record has been found of Hilda's birth in 1900. 1900: By April 1900 he was in South Africa, Modder River, serving in the Boer War. 1903: According to C.H. Western he left the Army as a Seargent-Major in 1903 and settled in Exeter. 1904: At the birth of W.D. Western (who died at aged 13) in June 1904, Bessie was residing at the New Golden Lion, Market St, Exeter, but W.D. junior was born at 79 Cowick St, St Thomas, Exeter. W.D. Senior was listed as a pensioner from the Royal Engineers. 1906: At the birth of C. H. Western in August of 1906, he was a licensed victualler at The New Golden Lion Inn, Market St, Exeter. 1909: Died in November 1909, aged 45, three months after the birth of Albert Edward Davie Western.
