Listed in Henry county Virginia on tax list of 1782 and 1787. Later listed as living in Hartford County, Norther Carolina and Halifax County, N.C.

were early settlers in Tennessee, coming from Hartford County, N.C. about 1800 possibly being awarded land for those serving in the Colonial War. Stewart County was settled principally by North Carolinians, the first of whom came some time about 1795 that State having issued military grants to survivors of the Continental War, which called for large tract of land lying in this county.

William Weaks, Sr. and family in 1803 were in an area near Red River and down the Cumberland River from Clarksville in Tennessee where he purchased 388 acres of land from James Atkins on February 27, 1821 on Dyers and Cub Creeks and was a successful farmer. Williams Weaks Sr and his wife Mary were buried in the Weaks Cemetery on Cub Creek, District 13 on Fulton Edward's place in Tennessee.

William Weaks Sr and some of his offspring were in business in Dover, Cumberland City and Indian Mounds in Stewart County, Tennessee for over one hundred fifty years.

William Weaks, Sr. made a will on March 20, 1834, giving his daughter Elmire Weaks some possessions and a Negro boy named Alfred between 3 or 4 years of age and a Negro girl named Priscilla between 1 or 2 years of age. He willed to his daughter Fanny Ann Weaks some possessions and a Negro woman and a girl. He also willed Washington L. Weaks some land and possessions and a Negro boy names Samuel 3 or 4 yeasrs of age. Washington L. Weaks bought 100 acres of land for $100.00 from Elias Smith-signed by witnesses Elias W. Smith, William Weaks, Mary Weatherfood X (her mark). These items and also land sales are quite interesting written out in full in the records.
