Facts and Events
William Harold Turner was born on 24th July 1894 at Plymouth in Devon, son of Elizabeth Mary Turner, formerly May, and her husband William Henry Turner, a stoker in the Royal Navy. When William was young the family moved to Pembroke in Wales for a time, where his brother Lionel was born. They then returned to the Plymouth area, settling in Devonport. William appears in both the 1901 and 1911 censuses living with his parents and siblings at 14 Third Avenue, Devonport.
In 1910, aged 15, William joined the Royal Navy, serving as a boy until he turned 18 in 1912. He was described as being 5' 1" tall with dark hair and brown eyes and a dark complexion, although he was clearly still growing as he was later described as being 5'3". He served in the Royal Navy right through the First World War and most of the 1920s, leaving in 1927.
William has yet to be traced after 1927.
