He was born at Middletown, November 18th, 1803. He learned the tanner's trade and then moved to New York City. In 1887 he went West and settled at Brighton, where he had since lived. He married Miss Elizabeth Kirby Hooper of this state. She died many years ago. He left two sons and a daughter, all of whom live at Brighton. He was an uncle of John M. Tunis of Howell.

 At Brighton, Mich., on Jan. 11th., at the residence of his son-in-law, Hon. Eugene Hicks, ocurred the death of William T. Tunis at the advanced age of 91. Mr. Tunis was born at Middletown in this county and was a son of Moses Tunis, and brother of the late Henry and Thomas T. Tunis. He went to New York at an early age and soon after emigrated with his family and a few friends to there comparatively unknown but now densely populated region where he lived and died. He did much to develope and improve his section, acquired a ? competency and bore an excellent reputation. His surviving children are Mrs. Hicks and two sons, all substantial people. Mr. Tunis had a sister who lived to reach her 103th year and another her 96th, and two or three other members of the family reached or passed their 100th anniversary.
