It appears to me that section 34 is about 6 miles south of Altoona, and the same distance SW of Gallant, across the county line into StClair County. Very near to Horse Pens Forty.

My Father use to speak of a Barry in his family. I think perhaps Rev. William's brother. Anyway it would be interesting spectating to know if he was a red head.

My father always belive he had a very special Birthright being the 7th son in a row without the interruption of a female. In the Bible the number 7 is referred to so many times, many times and I am told , stands for completeness. However, I am told that Rev. William F. Thomas is a 7th son also. That really makes my Father's birthright unusual or special. So my Father is the 7th son of a 7th son.

Hi D.J., Its been a while since I corresponded with you. I have also had a computer crash and lost about all of my records.
You had told me that you had obtained a record of Wiley Thomas' family. I believe Wiley Thomas was the Son of Rev. William F. Thomas and Frances Adaline Nix. Their children were 7 boys and a girl.
You might have sent me the Info. and I misplaced or lost it.
Did the decendant in CA. have any further Information on the family? I would love to hear from you again.
    Thanks, James M. Young.

Hello James, I have been through a complete computer system crash and I know the feeling. It makes you just want to quit completely, but you keep going on.

I do not remember where I was in the Wiley Thomas and Rev. William Thomas search when we last communicated so let me give you all that I have on those branches. I think the descendant from CA had to do with a family reunion in TN and that turned up blank. But here goes. This appears to be our original correspondence

Good morning James: My involvement with the Thomas family is through the marriage of Frances Adaline NIX 1855-1926 to Rev. William F. Thomas -1899. and the marriage of Martha Leona Bynum to James Willey Thomas. Martha and Frances Adaline are both descendants of Jennings Nix and I am attempting to do a descendants tree for him. My information on both is fairly limited. I also have Wiley Thomas and Rebeccah Humphries in my files, but for the life of my I do not know why at this time. When I started I did not realize the absolute necessity of good source documentation and some of my material is not well soured.
I understand that there is a Thomas reunion this month in Tenn. I am not sure of the details, but I am expecting to obtain some additional details from that reunion, and I will share them if they are of value to you.
Please keep in touch, and I would love to hear the details of your Thomas family. I am working in Etowah, Blount and StClair counties of Alabama. The Walnut Grove and Altoona area of Etowah County was the home of many of my family members.

Hello Dalton, I'm James M. Young, a decendant of Wiley Thomas and Rebecca Humphrees. My Wiley Thomas was born in Georgia and His Will was probated there in abt 1814. I think He also lived in South Carolina and maybe back to GA. However, one genealogist claims that His Will was probated because He had disappeared and they assumed that He was dead. She says that He is buried in Erath County Texas and that He lived several years after the Will was probated.
I have several or all the names of His Children. There is one Daughter that I am interested in. She is Elizabeth (Thomas) Young. who married George Washington Young about 1828. She was my Great Great Grandmother and the last record I have on Her is the 1870 Alabama census, Walnut Grove-Etowah Co. . Two Children remained at home in 1870--Joseph and Willie (Wiley).
If this is the same Wiley Thomas that you have, I have the Will of Rebecca (Humphrees) Thomas, His wife. She died in 1858 in St Clair Co. AL.
I will be glad to share all I have and would certainly appreciate learning more about Wiley Thomas and His forebears.
    Best Wishes and Good Hunting.

I do not have any dates or locations to use as double checks. Also I have not done any search through the census for this family. There may be a chance that Rebeccah is listed in the Bynum or the Murphree Book. Also I must double check on the spelling for the surname.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is my file for Rev William F. Thomas, and it needs some work. See that I have James Wiley Thomas listed twice. The second of those listings came from the Bynum Book and they did not have a wife for Rev Thomas. They were following the Bynum line. So I must go back and review both listings. I think they are the same but with differences in the full names of the children. Maybe you can figure it all out.

    FRANCIS ADELINE NIX

The only other family member of Paw Nix that we have been able to learn about was his sister Adeline.

Francis Adeline Nix was born September 26, 1855 in Etowah County, Alabama. She was the third child of Tyree and Letty NIx. Adeline married William S. Thomas, a preacher and they became tahe parents of 8 children, one girl and seven boys. In 1899 Rev. William died leaving Adeline with three boys to raise. On December 7, 1905 Adaline married Thomas J. Moarrow (commonly called Uncle Tom), he was somewhat peculiar and was strict on Adeline's boys. Before Uncle Tom died in 1919 he ask Will, one of Adelines boys , to promise to always take care of his moother and Uncle Tom would leave all he had to Will. Will always kept his promise and Adeline lived with him and his family until her death on January 8, 1926. She is buried in the Livingston Chapel Cemetery in Cullman, Alabama.

I have been told that Adeline was a very small frame lady with long silky black hair that touched the floor when she was sitting in a straight chair and her eyes were blue.

Aunt Lena visited with Adeline's youngest son, Eldridge, about 12 years ago and met some of his family. Since that time she has met and corresponded with other descendanats of Adeline's and we have had some of her family attend our reunions. They have come from Indiana, Alabama and Ohio.

Adaline was very small in stature. My Father, being 6 foot even, said she could stand straight, underneath his arm when it was extended out to his side. Adaline had long, silky black hair and blue eyes and her husband had red hair and blue eyes. I am told that half of the 8 children took after her coloring and half after William's coloring.
