According to 'Descendants of William Shankland', he married Sarah Kansas Fuller.

 This could be the 'Witt Shankland' listed in the 1880 census for Upper Blue Lick, Nicholas Co., Kentucky.  He is 26, blacksmith, with wife 'Kanns' age 22; and sons William, 3, and Lee, 1 -- all born in Kentucky.  {p.469a}
 In the 1900 census for Buzzards Roost, Nicholas Co., Kentucky, W. E. H. Shankland is 46, b. Apr 1854, married 26 years, blacksmith. Wife Sarah is C. is 42, born 185?, with 4 of 4 children living; children are William D., born (?) 1877; Carly L. 21, born Jan 1879; daughter Rena A. 19 born May 1884; and Retta H. 8, born Oct 1891.  All born Kentucky, parents same. {ed 105, sh 13, l. 48}
 In the 1910 census for district 3, Nicholas Co., Kentucky, William E. Shankland is 51, married 35 years [occupation illegible]; his wife Sarah K. is 52 with 4 of 4 children living. Son Willie is 34, single, [occupation illegible] and daughter Retta is 18 -- all born Kentucky, parents Kentucky. {ed ?, sh 11a, p. 60}

 In the 1920 census for Myers, district 2, Nicholas co., Kentucky, William Shankland is 65, farmer; wife Sarah K. is 61; and son William (D/B?) is 44, single, blacksmith. Katherine Crockett, servant is 17. All born Kentucky, parents same. {ed 215, sh 8b, p. 211}
 In the "History of Nicholas County", it says "In the early 1900's, Witt Shankland had a blacksmith shop on his farm."
 The Kentucky Death Index lists 'Witte E. Shankland', died 18 Dec 1921 at age 68 [so born about 1853] in Nicholas Co, and Sarah K. Shankland died 23 Aug 1924, age 66 [so born abt 1858]. {Kentucky Death Index 1911-1986, <ukcc.uky.edu>, 8 Feb 2003}
