    Honourable William Renwick Riddell

    Born in Cobourg, Ontario, William Riddell (1852-1945) was one of twelve children. He worked as a teacher in Ottawa until graduating from university, and then as a Doctor’s Apprentice. William married Anna Crossen.

    Riddell next pursued a career in law and was called to the bar in 1883. His distinguished career included law practices in Toronto and Cobourg, and election to the Bench of the Law Society of Upper Canada. He was designated Queen’s Council (1899), appointed Justice to the Supreme Court of Ontario (1906), and was appointed to the Appeals Division of the Supreme Court of Ontario (1925).

    The Honourable Riddell was also a published historian.
