Note for William Peter are condensed from the research contributed by Dr. Anthony Troha: Mention of William Peters is found at http://www.nyc.gov/html/lpc/downloads/pdf/reports/VINEGAR_HILL_HISTORIC_DISTRICT.pdf. This is a description of an historic building built by John Jackson and purchased by William and Christiana Peters in 1839. A portion of the record reads "Peters, a resident of Manhattan and possibly a relative of Jackson, was listed in the city directories as a shipmaster until the mid-1840s; later his business address was listed as the Merchants' Exchange. In the record of a different building (same site) is found "Powers purchased the lot from William Peters, apparently an heir of John Jackson, in 1840 and was listed as the building's occupant in the Brooklyn directories from 1847 to 1850." Only a few years after Hamilton Halliburton Jackson Peter’s baptism, William Peters passed away at a quite young age: The Brooklyn Daily Eagle, Tuesday Evening, May 1, 1849, Page 2, Column 4: “DIED. May 1st, after a short illness, William Peters, Esq, aged 48 years. The relatives and friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend his funeral to morrow (Wednesday) afternoon, at 4 o'clock from his late residence 63 Court street, between Livingston and Schermerhorn streets.-His remains will be taken to Greenwood [sic: Green-Wood] Cemetery.” This gives us his age, so he was born c. 1801. Sixteen years later, his wife joined him in Heaven: References
