Mount Gambier, May 8.
Mr. Wm. Paltridge, J.P., formerly a representative of this district in the Assembly, died to-day of pneumonia, following on an attack of influenza. He was not seriously ill till Sunday, when he suffered a relapse; which resulted fatally. The deceased, who was a very old colonist, came to the colony in 1847, and arrived in Mount Gambier 30 years ago. He was one of the contractors for the Kingston and Narracoorte railway, and since its completion has been engaged in pastoral pursuits here and in New South Wales. He contested Victoria on the death of the late Mr. Livingston, but was defeated. He leaves a widow, who is a daughter of Mr. John Dunn, of Mount Barker, and a grown-up family. The deceased was a strongly-built man, and apparently had the prospect of a long life before him, his age being only 56 years.
