Name William Moles
Gender Male
Marriage 13 Feb 1743 Stotfold, Bedfordshire, Englandto Ann Collop
Burial[1] 9 Jun 1768 Stotfold, Bedfordshire, England

William Moles' origins have yet to be established. It is quite likely that he was the William Moles baptised in Newnham, Hertfordshire on 31st January 1720, but this has not been proven.

William's first confirmed sighting is on 13th February 1743, when he married Ann Collop, who was 20. They married at Stotfold, which is where Ann was from. William and Ann settled in Stotfold, where they had six children between 1743 and 1752, although one died as a baby. William worked as a labourer.

William appears to have died in 1768, being buried at Stotfold on 9th June 1768. He and Ann had been married for 25 years. Ann survived him by 26 years.

    9 Jun 1768: W[illia]m Moule, lab[oure]r

Needs to be confirmed at Bedfordshire Archives. It is possible that this burial might actually be William's son, and that William senior the one who died in 1793. However, if it was the younger William who died in 1768 he would only have been 17, thus you might expect the parish register to have described him as "son of William and Ann" or "William Moles junior". On the balance of probability therefore it seems more likely that it was William senior who died in 1768 and William junior in 1793.
