William owned 150 acres called Wolver Hampton in 1681. There was a William Mekin baptized in Wolverhampton, England on 13 May 1640. There are numerous Mekins there, and the records for the 1630s and 1640s appear spotty. But if this William were not born until 1640, the estimated birth dates of his children would have to be adjusted (e.g., his daughter Elizabeth is usually listed as being born in the 1650s.

Wolver Hampton is owned by his son-in-law James French in 1707, suggesting that William had passed away by then.

There is a will in the St. Mary’s county for William Meakins dated 17 Feb 1749. That is probably a son, as it would be too old to be this William. Mentions sister Ann Wots, whose son Willibe is under 21. No mention of wife or children. There’s also a will for Augustine Meekins, dated 21 Feb 1767, mentions sisters Margaret and Theresa. wife is probably Catherine.
