This entry cautions the reader about "numerous factual errors" in the book Early Western Pioneers by George W Cleek (probably the same man whose headstone application for Adam Lightner was rejected).

The entry cites the book The Lightner Heritage, by Steve Bast, published 2006, for the following:
William was born in 1748 or 1749 and married Maria Elizabeth (maiden name unknown) about 1768. Maria Elizabeth died between 1805 and 1810. William then married Catherine Sharrot/Sharat, widow of Daniel Sharrot [is this the 3 Jul 1811 marriage of William Lightner and Catherine Stuart (as transcribed) in Bath County, Virginia?], and died probably between 1832 and 1840, since they are not listed in the 1840 census.
