References
  1. 1.0 1.1 William Lightner, in Find A Grave.

This entry cautions the reader about "numerous factual errors" in the book Early Western Pioneers by George W Cleek (probably the same man whose headstone application for Adam Lightner was rejected).

The entry cites the book The Lightner Heritage, by Steve Bast, published 2006, for the following:
William was born in 1748 or 1749 and married Maria Elizabeth (maiden name unknown) about 1768. Maria Elizabeth died between 1805 and 1810.

If The Lightner Heritage is correct about William's birth and marriage years, then Christopher and/or John Michael either weren't his children, or were born later. It is not clear which is the case.

  2.   Mrs Catharine Lightner, in Find A Grave.

Catharine was William's second wife, but this FAG entry is the source for the following info (citing The Lightner Heritage, by Steve Bast, published 2006):

Elizabeth Roby did not marry William Lightner. Instead, she married George Wood, according to a marriage bond dated Dec. 15, 1820 in Pendleton County, Virginia. [This doesn't make a convincing argument, as the marriages are a good 2 generations apart, and there obviously could have been more than one Elizabeth Roby - however, consulting the book (which does not appear to be available online as of Jan 2025) might make the argument more clear.]

  3. Probably married about 1768, had a child in 1792.
