OBITUARY:

THE HARTFORD COURANT William Andrew Liddell III of Wethersfield, a former correspondent for The Courant and researcher of the Kennedy assassination, died Sunday. He was 45.

Mr. Liddell reported news from Chaplin for The Courant from 1980 to 1983, and had worked for the Willimantic Chronicle.

He later joined the public affairs division of the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority, and most recently worked for the state Department of Correction as a parole officer and counselor.

Mr. Liddell for many years conducted research on the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. He believed the assassination was the work of more than one person. His research included reading the 26 volumes of the Warren Report, interviewing critics of it, spending a month in the National Archives and collecting documents and photographs for a multimedia presentation. The past 20 years, he lectured at college campuses in New England.

Born in New Haven, Mr. Liddell lived for 15 years in Willimantic and Storrs. He graduated from Hamden High School in 1965 and from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1970, with degrees in history and English.

He leaves his parents, William A. Liddell Jr. and Eleanor P. Liddell, both of Hamden; his wife, Holly Liddell; and two sons and a stepdaughter.
