William Wade Leslie perished when the Jane Margaret sunk in the Irish Sea.

He was the Pioneer of the Leslie Family in Canada. As an officer in the 6th Regiment of Foot, he served in Wellington's Army of Occupation. While in France, Captain Leslie married a French titled lady, Louise Lavigne LeSage. As a reward for distinguished service,King William IV granted him a tract of 397 acres of land in the south-east corner of Puslinch Twp. The family came to Canada in 1832. Five years later, Capt Leslie returned to Ireland to sell land When returning to Canada on the "Jane Margaret", ship apparently sank enroute.
