The story is told that the family walked from Dundas, near Hamilton, on the Brock Road to their new home in Puslinch. The seven children ranged in age from William, 16 to Henry 3, John 2 and Peter, a small baby. Lady Louise at one point stopped, sat on a rock and cried because the mud had ruined her blue satin shoes. Within a year of her husband being lost at sea, she died of a broken heart.
