Capt Johnson was in the War of 1812 and a son of a veteran of the Revolution, was a member of the large landholding French Hugenot family of that name of the Eastern Shore MD.

Oct 23, 1914, h/Ida A., Military: Co K 31 Ia, Vol. INF. Notes copied form William A. Lambertson's GEDCOM: With Sherman in his march through Georgia and at Atlanta. Badly wounded in the right thigh. Would not allow doctors to amputate, went home to Iowa to recuperate. Rejoined army a few months later and went to Eastern Tennessee during the winter of 1864, helped to apprehend deserters. Later rejoined his company at Raleigh, NC. Marched in the Grand Review and marched down Pennsylvania Avenue after the war. From his obituary: Mr. Lambertson's rugged physique, with his strong and easy stride, peculiarly fitted him for infantry service and permitted him to carry not only his own burdens but those of his comrades on the weary marches. Bought 80 acres where Fairview, Kansas is now. Active in the Congregational Church at Old Fariview and first president of the Walnut Township Sunday School Association, gave the land for the Reformed Church.
